Proven to be antibacterial, diuretic, slows heart rate, laxative, sedative, lowers blood sugar, anti-inflamatory

Root also considered edible for flavoring coffee


Coltsfoot  (Tussilago farfara)

Popular cough medecine. Dried leaves smoked for coughs and asthma. Smoke thought to suppress coughs by affecting parasympathetic nerves. Also acts as an antihistamine.

Leaf mucilage soothes inflamed mucuous membranes and leaves have spasmolytic activity.

Contains traces of liver damaging pyrrolizidine alkaloids and should not be taken in high doses or over long periods.
