Kingdom Protista, Phylum Myxomycptes (Slime Molds), Genus Physarum

When the plasmodium dries out it becomes a sclerotium which can remain viable for many years. When wetted again, the sclerotium crawls out of its protein shell and becomes a plasmodium again.
